Akhrot Ka Halwa (Walnut Halwa)

Akhrot ka halwa is a kind of walnut crumble that is widely popular in South Asia and the Middle East. This sweet confection is rich in essential Omega-3 fatty acids, and it is great for entertaining. If you want to prepare an impressive dessert without having to follow a painstakingly complicated recipe, this one is just for you. This delectable, nut-and-butter-based dessert can literally be prepared in minutes!


  • Walnuts – 2 cups, halved or chopped
  • Butter – 1 cup
  • Condensed milk – 1 can
  • Milk powder – 2 cups, full cream, preferably Nido
  • Eggs – 4, lightly beaten
  • Brown sugar – 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder – ½ tsp


Measure and keep all ingredients handy before you begin cooking.

Add butter to a heavy-base skillet or frying pan. Add cardamom powder and cook until warm and bubbly.

Add milk powder and stir constantly, cook over low to medium heat for about 5 minutes or until the powder is light golden brown and has absorbed the butter.

Add sugar and cook for another 2 minutes or so.

Add beaten eggs to the mixture and stir constantly, cook for about 5-8 minutes or until the mixture is dark brown, dry and crumbly.

Add condensed milk and cook until the mixture leaves the sides of the pan and has thickened.

Add walnuts and cook for another minute. Remove from heat.

Spread the mixture evenly in a lightly greased pan and press hard with the back of a spatula or spoon. Let the mixture set for about 10-15 minutes.

Using a sturdy knife, cut the mixture into squares or diamonds. Keep aside to set (will keep unrefrigerated overnight).

When ready to serve, take the squares out of the pan and serve on a platter.
